Don founded Place Heritage in 2025 to offer his curiosity, knowledge and experience to clients in their conservation of heritage places and in their development in heritage contexts.
With thirty years’ experience looking after heritage places through conservation and heritage management, he has worked at the most strategic of levels to one-to-one scale fine-grained solutions resolving how we use, look after, and pass on our assets and places with economy, efficiency and sensitivity. Trained in architecture and specialising in built heritage and designed landscapes, he provides clients with the full spectrum of heritage place services from guiding city shaping development and adaptive reuse, through to building fabric conservation and interpretation.
He has extensive experience helping clients navigate heritage approvals processes and in the preparation of documentation required by local, state and federal approval authorities including heritage assessments, conservation management plans, heritage management plans, statements of heritage impact, schedules of conservation works, maintenance plans, heritage interpretation plans, and the giving of expert evidence before the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales.
His clients have included Commonwealth, state and local government, commercial, institutional, and private clients across a wide spectrum of industry sectors including Defence, transport and infrastructure; education; health; urban development; infill; mixed-use; residential; commercial; hospitality; retail, and cultural sectors
